The story of my life...

Life is such a funny thing…and the thing that makes is so wonderfully unique are people. An airport is a wonderful place to witness it. A flight gets cancelled. I find myself on a four hour layover in Edmonton. You ask yourself how you end up in Edmonton on a direct flight from Calgary to Vancouver at 4:00pm

Well it starts with a broken window. Well, a cracked pilot’s window to be exact. Please don’t get me wrong a broken plane is a very good reason to cancel a flight. But I would hope for slight more organized cancelled flight contingency plans. So it started with a very long wait in the wrong line, then a very long wait in the right line and finally the words, “I can’t get you there tonight.”

Then there is the smallest glimmer of hope as a fellow stranded Calgrary passenger, off to see his girlfriend in Vancouver, suggests he is being routed via Edmonton. Sounds like a great idea. Flight leaves at 4:55pm, the one from Edmonton leaves at 6:55 all and all you should be in Vancouver until not much after 8pm Pacific time.. A little later that initial time but in Vancouver in time for a nice dinner!

But, in a manner that is indicative of airline industries world wide. The first plane is nearly half-an-hour late departing. No problem lots of time to get the connecting flight in Vancouver.

Not that I needed it. The plane arrived 45 minutes late. And there was not enough crew for the trip back.

The 7:00pm rapidly became the 8:00pm flight which melted into the 9:00pm flight.

So much for not eating lunch and only grabbing a snack when I get into Vancouver.

I am famished.

So 10 minutes and a $5 piece of pizza later I contemplate why I ever thought “jet-setting” was vaguely fun or trendy.

But in theory I should get to Vancouver tonight.

….. in theory.
